Kreate’s contract kicks off construction of new metro line in Stockholm – order book from Sweden worth EUR 8.5 million

At the turn of the year, Kreate Sverige and Region Stockholm signed an agreement for the construction of the first work tunnel for Stockholm’s new metro line in Älvsjö. The contract is worth SEK 91 million, or approximately EUR 8.5 million. Kreate recorded it in its order backlog for the last quarter of 2025. With this contract, Kreate Sverige secured its first role as main contractor in a metro project. In total, the company has been involved in the construction of ten stations out of twelve in the Stockholm metro expansion project, which began in 2020.

“The agreement makes us the first tunnel contractor for the new metro line, and at the same time, this is also our first role as the main contractor in a metro project. We put a lot of effort into the bid, and now our hard work is being rewarded,” says Kenneth Wahlqvist, CEO of Kreate Sverige.

Construction of the new metro line begins with the building of a work tunnel

The new metro line, Gula linjen (The Yellow Line), is a completely new, independent, and automated line planned for the Stockholm metro. It runs from Fridhemsplan station via Liljeholmen, Årsta, and Östberga to Älvsjö. The aim of the new metro line is to facilitate traffic between the city centre and Söderort and to enable the creation of new housing and jobs in the area.

“In the project we have now won, we will be building a 300-meter-long work tunnel leading from the surface to the metro tunnel, enabling the construction of a new metro station in Älvsjö. The work tunnel will run approximately 40 meters underground,” says Wahlqvist.

Kreate Sverige will be constructing retaining walls, excavating and open-pit mining, and injecting and reinforcing rock cuts. Work will begin in January 2026 and last for approximately one and a half years.

Kreate’s excellent growth rate in Sweden continues

Kreate’s Swedish business has set a target of achieving annual sales of SEK 650 million by the end of the 2024–2027 strategy period. Expansion geographically and into new types of construction, as well as growth from the role of subcontractor to main contractor, support the revenue growth target.

“Our Swedish organization has done an excellent job, as evidenced by the contract for the first phase of the new metro line. With strong performance, expansion into new types of construction and the role of main contractor is progressing excellently. Kreate Sverige’s growth rate is even faster than the targets set in the strategy,” says Timo Vikström, CEO of Kreate Group, happily.

Kreate Sverige has already demonstrated its expertise on numerous occasions in the major metro expansion project launched in Stockholm in 2020. It has carried out numerous projects in Järfälla, the Londonviadukten, Farsta, and Sofia station, among other places. A total of 12 stations have been completely renovated to date, ten of which Kreate has been involved in implementing.
