Despite the sparsely populated area, construction will partly take place on narrow streets right next to housing. Widening of the streets will sometimes take place very close to residential areas, which will require special care.
The natural gas and power lines in the area pose an additional challenge. For example, the project involves some 300 km of pillar stabilisations in order to improve the load bearing capacity of the clay soil. The sewer lines and street structures may only be constructed after this stage. In connection with the street construction, the natural gas lines will be protected with concrete elements, and excavation near the lines will use rock splitting rather than blasting.
The customer in the nearly EUR 11 million contract is the City of Espoo, and the execution schedule is from June 2019 to May 2021.
