Kreate is involved in the development phase of the project in an alliance with the Public Transport Agency. Other parties involved in the project are the City of Tampere, VR-Yhtymä Oyj and Fintraffic Raide Oy. The total cost of the major project is estimated at 202 million euros.
The railway station area connecting the east and west sides of Tampere is at the heart of the city, and the project sites are located along the main line in different parts of the city centre. In addition to the platforms, tracks and canopies at the station, the project includes the replacement of the Erkkilä overpass, the Viinikanoja and Tampere highway underpasses, and the consolidation of the Itsenäisyydenkatu underpass and the railway station tunnel into a passenger terminal. Once the works are completed, the various travel chains will be smooth and accessible, and it will be easy to move from one public transport mode to another in the area.
The development phase of the project, which involves a wide range of different types of construction, will involve bridge, railway, transport infrastructure and foundation builders, as well as experts in communication, design guidance and virtual construction from Kreate.
A separate decision will be taken by the Public Works Agency at a later stage to move to the implementation phase of the project. Construction is expected to start in spring 2025.
