The earthworks of the large-scale project included, among other things, the excavation for the building trench of the new production facility. The new factory building is 200 metres long and 130 metres wide, and there was a total of approximately 100,000 cubic metres to be quarried. The building is to be located south of the current poultry production facility, partly on top of the current car park and partly east of it.
Kreate’s professionals were also responsible for the construction of Atria’s yard areas and parking areas in a total area of approximately four hectares. We built the storage fields and solar panel fields, and our work also included earthworks for the energy centre and sewage basin that will be located on the site. Kreate was also responsible for constructing the building technology and process technology pipelines outside the new factory building as well as the main water supply, pressure sewer, district heating and high-voltage cables for the energy centre.
The worksite area was very large, and the quarrying and construction next to the operational factory and production routes brought challenges.
The environmental impact of the earthworks phase was taken into account, for example, by processing the aggregates from the excavated rock for use on the worksite instead of transporting them away. We made full use of the compactable cutting masses in the structures of the solar panel fields built on the site. In this way, we reduced the environmental impacts, use of virgin materials and the resulting costs as well as the congestion of road networks.
The customer for the contract was Atria Oyj. Kreate’s portion of the contract was completed in the summer of 2023, and Atria’s new factory will be finished in 2024 at the earliest.
