ÄVÄNTJOKI RAILWAY BRIDGE RENOVATION IN KÄRKÖLÄ
Kreate’s railway specialists are undertaking the renovation of the Äväntjoki railway bridge, located on the Riihimäki-Lahti railway section in Kärkölä. Commissioned by the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency (Väylävirasto), the project is scheduled from April to September 2025.
The renovation involves dismantling the existing track superstructures, renewing the bridge deck’s waterproofing, and constructing new tracks and edge beams. Additional tasks include injecting and coating old concrete surfaces, encasing the front walls, and improving the bridge’s embankments. Later in the summer, the project will replace transition slabs at the bridge ends and install corner support walls.
To minimize disruption to the busy Riihimäki-Lahti railway traffic, the work will proceed in two phases, addressing one track at a time. The main superstructure renewal will be executed during a 48-hour railway traffic interruption.
The project team is mindful of the trout stocked in the Äväntjoki river. Therefore, work affecting the watercourse will be conducted during July and August to avoid disturbing the fish spawning season.
The client of the project is the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency (Väylävirasto). The project is scheduled to last from April 2025 until September 2025.
