IMPROVING THE COASTAL RAILWAY BETWEEN INKOO AND KARJAA

Kreate has secured the construction contract located within the municipality of Inkoo, focusing on stability enhancements for the Coastal Railway, including new drainage systems.

Our railway professionals will construct approximately one kilometre of pile slabs beneath the track, renew structural layers, and build drainage structures along with the new track. These measures aim to improve the load-bearing capacity of the railway structure and reduce frost heave. The project also includes constructing about half a kilometre of service road and improving other routes.

The complexity of the Inkoo-Karjaa project is heightened by the need to coordinate with service interruptions caused by the construction of the Espoo City Railway. For Kreate, this means that most railway work will commence after Midsummer, with a significant portion completed by the end of July. During this period, approximately 2 200 cubic metres of concrete will be poured into pile slabs, and out partially owned company, KFS Finland Oy, will install around 15 kilometres of piles to reinforce the soft ground.

An additional unique aspect is the construction of a temporary diversion track. In the first phase of the interruption, we will dismantle the existing track and reassemble it adjacent to its original location. This approach ensures that tamping machines and other necessary railway equipment can access the Espoo City Railway during the interruption, allowing us to construct the new track more efficiently.

The client for the contract is the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency (Väylävirasto) and the project duration is set from April 2025 to October 2025. The contract value is approximately 5,5 million euros.
