Kreate renovated the award-winning Crusellin Bridge and Lapinlahdenkatu Bridge in Helsinki

Kreate was the main contractor for the repair of the Crusellin Bridge connecting Ruoholahti and Jätkäsaari and the Lapinlahdenkatu overpass in Kamppi.

The Crusellin Bridge is an asymmetrical diagonal arch bridge that won the Bridge of the Year Award in 2013 and received a special mention in the 2009 Global BIM Awards. For the Crusellin Bridge, the project included the replacement of part of the pylon above and below the deck. Cracks in the structures were grouted and corrosion damage was repaired as necessary. In addition, the bridge was equipped with new and refurbished fittings and the seams were replaced. At the northern and southern ends of the bridge, the road area was modified in terms of surface structures and stormwater drainage ditches.

On the Lapinlahdenkatu overpass, we replaced the surface structures, waterproofing, edge beams and railings. During the work, traffic ran in one lane. The underside of the bridge deck was coated throughout, and the lower parts of the front walls were spiked and patched by pouring. A separate protective structure was built to protect pedestrians and cyclists on the Baana under the bridge.

The very busy bridges were repaired in phases, allowing vehicle, pedestrian and cycle traffic to remain uninterrupted on the bridges throughout the works. Tram services on the Crusellin Bridge were suspended from 3 June to 1 September and replaced by bus services.

The project was carried out in a low-emission manner in line with the Carbon Neutral Helsinki 2030 emission reduction programme. The contractor was the City of Helsinki, and the contract period was 5-11/2024.
