WE REPLACED THE RAILWAY BRIDGE ACROSS VIINIKANKATU IN TAMPERE
Kreate replaced the railway bridge crossing Viinikankatu at Viinikka in Tampere, also known as the Pinninkatu underpass, with a new, longer bridge.
Work on the Early Contractor Involvement began at the end of November 2019 with the establishment of the worksite and the protection and removal of pipes, wires and cables.
The old bridge had two spans and its deck was 24 metres long, while the new bridge has five spans and is some 40 metres longer than the old one. The new bridge was founded upon bored piles reaching into the rock and having a length of up to 60 metres.
The circular economy was reflected in the contract, for instance by using the natural rock from the ground supports of the existing bridge in the retaining walls under the new bridge. Construction work on the new bridge began in February-March 2020. The bridge deck was built on the south side of the current bridge on Viinikankatu and was moved into place during a 60-hour shutdown of train traffic.
The contract sum was more than four million euros. The customer was the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency, which implemented the project in cooperation with the City of Tampere. The new bridge was finished in late summer 2020.
