The new bridge will be built in two stages. Bridge B, to be located to the east of the current bridge, will be built first. Once bridge B is complete, traffic will be routed to the new bridge. The demolishing of the current Kirkkonummentie overpass will then begin. Bridge A will be built in its place. Pedestrian traffic and cyclists will move to the new bridge once bridge B is complete, after which we will demolish the current bridge for bicycle and pedestrian traffic.
The new bridge will pass over the Helsinki to Turku railway, also known as the Coastal Railway, as well as Munkinmäentie and Asemankaari. Working next to a busy railway makes the work more challenging; as a result, some work stages will be completed during the night when there is less train traffic. Vehicle traffic on Kirkkonummentie will continue throughout the bridge contract, and the flow of traffic to the adjacent shopping centres will also be considered. With the bridge contract, the routes of the Munkinmäentie and Asemankaari roads, which run underneath the bridge, will move and they will be constructed once the bridges are complete.
The client for the contract is the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency, the contract schedule is from 8/2022 to 7/2024 and the contract sum is EUR 10.5 million. The costs of the project are covered by the municipality of Kirkkonummi.
