In a contract commissioned by the City of Oulu and Oulun Vesi, Kreate’s road professionals built new streets and light traffic lanes in Tahkokangas for a total of some 3 kilometres and a fitness track for some 1.3 kilometres.
The contract is part of the City of Oulu’s eco-efficient construction project, in which we efficiently utilised the materials generated at the worksite. A significant part of the cutting masses and the concrete and brick rubble from the demolished buildings could be utilised on location at the worksite (e.g. in the construction of pedestrian and cycle paths and tracks) instead of being transported away. This resulted in cost savings and reduced the carbon footprint of the construction work. At the same time, we reduced the use of virgin materials and the resulting costs as well as the congestion of road networks.
The ecological nature of infrastructure construction also extended to the water supply, the construction of which we executed with an emphasis on natural solutions: Stormwater is absorbed more efficiently into the terrain with the help of stormwater delay structures. For the residents of the area, they appear, for example, as delay swales along the fitness track. In total, some 9 kilometres of various water supply networks were added to the area.
In addition to the streets and light traffic lanes, Kreate built a fitness track that connects the Tahkokangas and Hiironen trails.
The contract time was from October 2022 to November 2023, and the value of the contract was some 4.5 million euros.
