Kreate’s bridge and transport infrastructure construction experts are executing a bridge construction in Kuusistonsalmi that includes the construction of a temporary bridge, the demolishing of the old bridge and the construction of a new one as well as road work. We will also be building transparent noise barriers on the bridge and concrete fences in the road area for reducing noise.
The new Kuusistonsalmi bridge will be built to be 29 metres longer and 2.5 metres wider, on the same site where the old bridge now lies. The road level will also be raised during the contract in order to reduce the slope of the hill on the Kuusisto side.
With the Kuusistonsalmi bridge project, we are building a total of three successive bridges on highway 180, Saaristotie. The next bridges after the Kuusistonsalmi bridge, which is located in Kaarina, are the Kirjalansalmi and Hessundinsalmi bridges in Parainen which are being built in the largest project in Kreate’s history. The nearby location of the three bridge projects allows for sharing best practices with the Kuusistonsalmi bridge project.
The work started in August 2023 with the construction of a temporary bridge next to the old bridge. The temporary bridge, built on steel piles, has two lanes and a separate passageway for pedestrian traffic and bicycles. Once traffic on Saaristotie has been moved to the temporary bridge, we will start the demolishing of the old bridge safely and without disturbance to the traffic.
The client is the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment of Southwest Finland and the contract schedule runs from 8/2023 until 9/2024. The value of this contract is more than EUR 7 million.
