EXCAVATION OF AN UNDERGROUND SWIMMING POOL AND SPA UNDER A SHOPPING CENTRE IN LEMPÄÄLÄ

Kreate’s foundation construction experts worked in Lempäälä, where we expanded a rock cavern for the pool sections of a swimming pool/spa facility. The work was done at a depth of 30–40 metres under one of the largest shopping centres in Finland.

In the contract commissioned by the Municipality of Lempäälä, the underground expansion excavation progressed from the removal of surface rubble to the actual excavation, followed by strengthening the rock walls and drainage. We did some 4,000 m³ of excavation, about 1,000 metres of bolting and some 200 m³ of shotcreting.

Among other things, the driving height of the tunnel brought challenges to the work phases by limiting the size of the equipment that could be used. In addition, runoff water had to be taken into account in the tunnel, and so there was continuous pumping on the worksite.

The circular economy was promoted by utilising all removed stone material at the construction sites of the Municipality of Lempäälä.

The contract time was from October 2022 to February 2023. The swimming pool/spa project as a whole will be completed during 2023.
