We are building a new Taulumäki water tower in Jyväskylä to secure water supply to the city center
A new water tower is being built in Taulumäki, Jyväskylä, with Kreate’s foundation and civil engineers overseeing the project. The new Taulumäki water tower will replace the Harju water tower, which has reached the end of its service life, and ensure water supply to downtown Jyväskylä for decades to come. Construction of this technically challenging project will begin in the spring of 2026, and the contract, valued at over 26 million euros, will be completed by the end of 2028.
A new water tower is set to be built in Jyväskylä after Kreate and Alva, the company responsible for water supply in the Jyväskylä region, signed a contract in April 2026 worth over 26 million euros for the turnkey construction of the Taulumäki water tower. Our extensive experience with large-scale projects and highly complex concrete structures provides a solid foundation for successful implementation.
The new Taulumäki water tower will replace the existing Harju water tower, which has reached the end of its service life, and will strengthen the water supply system in downtown Jyväskylä. The water tank in the water tower has a capacity of approximately 7,000 cubic meters, which is more than twice the capacity of the current Harju water tower. The project will improve the reliability of the water supply and support the city’s ability to prepare for disruptions in water distribution well into the future.
The water tower’s design is based on the Albedo proposal developed by Sweco Finland Oy, which won the design competition organized by the City of Jyväskylä and the Alva companies. The water tower’s three-dimensionally shaped steel facade and interior lighting make the tower appear different depending on the time of day and the season.
Construction is a technically demanding undertaking in which the base of the water tower’s tank is built to a height of approximately 30 meters, and the structures rise to a height of approximately 50 meters at their peak. We’ll start construction by pouring the foundation slab, and then we’ll build the cylindrical frame of the tower, which will rise all the way to the top. Finally, we will construct the tank structure and its supports.
Construction will begin in the spring of 2026, and the water tower is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2028.
