Modifications to the stern ramp will streamline cargo ship traffic at the Port of Oulu

Kreate’s road builders are working in Oulu, the largest general port on the Bothnian Bay, where we are widening the stern ramp to meet the cargo traffic needs of the port of Oritkari.

In this project, we are widening the stern ramp of pier 102 in the port of Oritari so that all stern ramps of arriving cargo ships can be fully opened onto the pier.

First, we will dismantle the old pier and build a temporary bridge for pile driving. After filling and piling, we will form, reinforce, and concrete the new quay. Our project also includes extremely demanding underwater construction work, as we will demolish the erosion slabs located on the seabed in front of the quay and cast new ones using contractor casting in a diving operation. The combi wall and concrete piling for the pier extension will be carried out by the specialist foundation builders at our joint venture KFS Finland.

We will be working in changing weather conditions, taking into account the special characteristics of the port area and ship traffic. The deep harbor basin also poses its own challenges for excavation work, the construction of a work bridge, and the removal and casting of erosion slabs. In addition, all work is interrupted weekly when a large cargo ship arrives at the pier.

In cooperation with the Port of Oulu staff, we ensure uninterrupted operations at the largest general port in the Bothnian Bay. We are therefore proceeding with solid expertise in demanding infrastructure construction, drawing on our knowledge from previous projects carried out in port environments for operators in various fields.

The client is the Port of Oulu, and the contract period is 5–11/2025.
