We are refurbishing Tikkuraitti in Tikkurila — one of Vantaa’s busiest pedestrian streets
Tikkuraitti is one of the most significant and busiest pedestrian streets in Tikkurila, Vantaa. Kreate is renovating Tikkuraitti by rebuilding the streets and water supply systems of Tikkuraitti and Orvokkitie, as well as the water supply system at the intersection of Talvikkitie and Peltolantie. Our goal is to make the area a lively and attractive pedestrian center, both functionally and in terms of the cityscape.
Kreaten’s road builders are working in Tikkurila, Vantaa, where we are constructing the streets of Tikkuraitti and Orvokkitie, as well as the water supply system and the water supply system for the Talvikkitie and Peltolantie intersection area. The contract area is bordered by Kielotie to the east, Unikkotie to the south, Talvikkitie to the west, and Lehdokkitie to the north.
The pedestrian street built on clay soil in the 1980s has sunk over time, and the bumpy street collects a lot of water when it rains. The site has many underground structures, such as water pipes and sewers. To prevent subsidence, we are laying water supply pipes on pile slabs and supporting the excavations with sheet pile walls. The most visible renovations for users of the busy pedestrian street are the area’s pavements, plantings, lighting, and street furniture. Work began in August 2025 with the renewal of the underground infrastructure at the Talvikkitie and Peltolantie intersection.
In line with Kreate’s operating model, the circular economy is also reflected in the project: we are using approximately 7,000 cubic meters of foam glass aggregate made from recycled glass as a street lightening structure. In addition, we aim to recycle old usable structural layers and soil masses either in this project or in other projects in the surrounding area. We also hope to find a new use for street stones that have sunk over time.
The inconvenience caused by the construction work, which will proceed in stages, will be kept to a minimum, and we will ensure that access to the pedestrian street and the properties along it remains as smooth as possible throughout the renovation. We will organize safe passageways and, in cooperation with local businesses and property owners, ensure that Tikkuraitti users can easily and safely access the services of businesses that remain open throughout the project.
Kreate signed the contract with the City of Vantaa in August 2025, and the renovated pedestrian street will be ready to use by the end of 2026. The project is worth around 8 million euros.
