Kreate uusii Polsun sillan Säkylässä.

We Are Replacing the Polsu Bridge in Säkylä

The Polsu bridge in Säkylä, built on wooden piles, has fallen into disrepair, so Kreate’s bridge professionals are building a new bridge and demolishing the old weight-restricted bridge. The project was commissioned by the Southwest Finland Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment.

Completed in 1965, the Polsu Bridge crossing Lake Köyliönjärvi is an important link to Kirkkosaari, which is also a nationally significant cultural landscape in Säkylä.

Kreate will build a new concrete bridge approximately 12 meters south of the existing wooden bridge. The total length of the new bridge will be 152.8 meters, and it will be founded on steel pipe piles with a maximum length of nearly 60 meters. The new Polsu Bridge will be 2.5 meters wider than the old bridge and will have two lanes and shoulders for pedestrians and cyclists.

The project also includes reinforcing the bridge approaches with reinforced concrete pile slabs and lightening embankments. In addition, we will build road 12689 to run along the new bridge location in Kirkkosaari and on the mainland.

Due to the poor condition of the current bridge, heavy vehicles, among others, are restricted from using it, so the new bridge will also improve transport connections. In the construction work, we will also take into account the nearby Natura area and actively monitor the impact of the construction on the water quality of Lake Köyliönjärvi.

The contract period is 6/2025–12/2026. The new bridge will be opened to traffic by the end of August 2026, and demolition of the old bridge will begin once the new bridge is completed. The client is the Southwest Finland Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment, and the contract value is EUR 5.3 million.
