As part of a major bridge renovation project, Kannelmäki station is being upgraded to make it safer and more accessible

The renovation of Kannelmäki train station brings together Kreate’s extensive expertise in railways and bridges as we upgrade the platform areas, stairways, elevators, and canopies, as well as the electrical and HVAC systems.

The most technically challenging section is the connecting bridge crossing the Ring Rail Line, which runs over the electrified track. The bridge repair requires exceptionally precise planning and execution, as the demolition and reinforcement work is strictly tied to the schedule of the rail service interruption. The load-bearing bridge deck, roof, and glass facades of the connecting bridge will be replaced, and the steel frame will be reinforced.

Construction is taking place in connection with a station located in a bustling urban environment, which places high demands on safety, logistics, and the organisation of passenger routes. Preparatory work will begin in April–May 2026. The most critical phases of the project will be carried out during the rail service suspension from June 1 to August 9, 2026.

The renovation of the Kannelmäki train station is part of a broader project to modernise three adjacent stations on the Ring Rail Line. On the same section of track, we are also carrying out a major renovation of the Malminkartano station tunnel, combining our expertise in railway engineering with our specialized knowledge of rock construction.

The renovation project will be carried out in accordance with the Green Deal’s principles for zero-emission construction sites and is scheduled for completion in November 2026. The client is Metropolitan Area Transport Ltd, and the contract is worth nearly 8.5 million euros.
