Construction of the new bridge and roundabout in Äänekoski began with the planning phase

We are building a new, nearly 150-meter-long waterway bridge in Äänekoski and renovating approximately 800 meters of road. Mt 642 The Äänekoski bridge D&B project also includes the construction of a new roundabout and the demolition of the existing bridge.

The old Äänekoski bridge over Äänejärvi, built in the 1950s, has reached the end of its life cycle, so this challenging project also meets the needs of a busy traffic and a growing industrial area. The new bridge will be built next to the old one, which will enable traffic to flow smoothly throughout the construction period.

The project will be implemented using a design-and-build model, with Kreate’s professional team responsible for both the design phase and the demanding construction work. The development phase, which will begin in March 2026, will optimize bridge and road layout solutions, traffic arrangements during construction, and phasing. The aim is to update the preliminary construction plan, model the detours and traffic arrangements during the work, refine the technical solutions for the bridge and road structures, and ensure that construction can proceed safely in a very confined environment. We also utilize our strong data model-based design expertise, which enables us to seamlessly integrate the geometry of the area and the bridge structures with the work being carried out next to the existing bridge.

In June 2026, we completed the development phase and moved on to the implementation phase. The most significant change during the development phase was the redesign of the bridge type included in the original road plan to create a more cost-effective solution. Instead of a composite girder bridge, we are building a concrete bridge with a span of as much as 60 meters. We also developed a foundation method, and we are constructing four supports using three different styles: rock-supported, ground-supported, and one support built on piles.

The development phase will be completed during the spring, and full-scale implementation is expected to begin in June 2026. The project is scheduled to be completed by the summer of 2028. The contract value for the implementation phase is just over €8.5 million, and Kreate will record it in its order book once the implementation phase has begun. The client for the project is the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency.
