Development and implementation planning for the renovation of a very demanding metro bridge on Junatie
Kreate, which has distinguished itself in the construction of technically demanding bridge projects, will construct the Junatie metro bridge in Helsinki. The project management contract involves dismantling the metro bridge between Kalasatama and Sörnäinen and a new one will be built in its place. The development phase began in October 2025, and the implementation phase is expected to begin in late spring 2026.
The Junatie metro bridge between Kalasatama and Sörnäinen in Helsinki will be renovated in 2026–2027. Kreate was selected as the project management contractor for the project in a competitive tendering process, where the company’s development ideas and implementation solutions earned excellent quality scores. The development phase began immediately after the procurement decision became legally binding.
The project will be carried out under demanding conditions, as the metro bridge is in the middle of a busy traffic environment and is one of the busiest sections of the Helsinki Metro in terms of passenger numbers. The current metro bridge will be dismantled and replaced with a new, safe, and reliable bridge. The implementation will focus on minimising disruptions, ensuring smooth work phases, and keeping metro service interruptions as short as possible.
We submitted several development proposals to the competitive tendering that improve the cost-effectiveness of implementation, safety during work, and the overall project schedule. Collaborative project management enables the refinement of solutions during the development phase in the development phase with Helsinki City Transport and Metropolitan Area Transport Ltd, which are operating on behalf of the client.
In its procurement process, Helsinki City Transport has estimated the value of the contract at €50–70 million, which will be revised during the development phase based on the construction solutions selected. Kreate will record the project in its order book once the implementation phase begins, which is estimated to be in late spring 2026.
